Project Name: America's Blues: Shedding Light on Police Violence
Our four-member capstone team acquired an open-source data set from MappingPoliceViolence.org, which has gathered over 9000 police killings from 2013 to May 2021. We are currently collaborating to clean and prep the Excel dataset. After developing our initial hypotheses, we will use Pandas, Seaborn, Matplotlib, and Tableau to explore our ideas. Top drivers of civilian fatalities identified will shed light on changes to be made to save more lives. Then we will use Scikit-Learn to encode multiple features to apply to our classification models predicting whether the victim was indeed an attacker.
For years I have translated abstract mathematical concepts to young adults. Now as a data scientist, I am able to continue the telling stories through numbers. Working in and furthering my own education has molded my ability to adapt and thrive in the data science field.
