Project Name: America's Blues: An Analysis of Fatal Police Encounters
For our capstone, we address the issue of police officer-involved fatalities that has become a heated topic throughout the country. Our project aims to research what attributes surround fatal police-related encounters and to analyze the attributes about these incidents that may be leading to the fatalities. Using data acquired from MappingPoliceViolence.org and FatalEncounters.org, we built a classification model that predicts the threat level of the victim, which was defined as a person presenting a lethal threat to officers or others at their time of death. As a team, we propose changes to be made within law enforcement in order to improve safety and outcomes for all people involved, both officers and civilians.
I am a highly motivated, detail-oriented problem solver who naturally craves diving deeper into data in search of insights that have real-world applications. The combination of my education, professional background, and my attraction to obtaining, studying, and exploring data in order to find solutions, has led me to be an outstanding Data Scientist.
discovering insights about the data at hand and then using these insights to achieve overall goals.
