My Capstone Project: Steering Towards Efficiency: Anchoring Shipping in Historical Data
After a rather involved acquisition stage, my project partner and I analyzed time-series patterns in unstructured data from the Port of Los Angeles and built a machine learning model that predicts the dock’s cargo load each day. This model beat baseline evaluation metrics and can lend predictive power to dock management to optimize dock staffing and maintenance according to the projected dock load.
