My Capstone Project: A Tale of Two Cities
The CDC’s social vulnerability index (SVI) is a scale that predicts the vulnerability of a population in the event of an emergency or natural disaster. COVID is the first global pandemic since the development of this measure. We evaluated the association between the SVI score and COVID case count in San Antonio and Dallas, Texas. Features from the SVI were incorporated into a predictive model which indicates that socioeconomic indicators are a better guide to resource allocation in a pandemic than SVI score.
