My Capstone Project: Screening Prevents Loss
Partnered with CWS Capital Partners, a multifamily investment firm based out of Austin, Tx. They have over 97 properties across the United States. As a team we were able to gather data on about 5,000 residents dating back from 2018 to 2023. With initially pulling in over 740,000 rows of data from Microsoft SQL Server before cleaning. We created a secondary screening model to flag and detect applicants that are more likely to cause loss to the company through damages or uncollectible charges. The primary model that CWS already uses is pretty effective in that only about 3% of applicants that were accepted actually caused damage or a loss to the company. Using our model in conjunction with the primary model we are able to reduce this amount from 3% to around 1.4%.
