We sought to determine the feasibility of President Biden’s goal to have electric vehicles (EVs) make up 50% of all vehicle sales by the year 2030. We used historical vehicle sales, U.S. copper production, and global copper production data to generate several forecasts. We used these forecasts to determine if the current copper production configuration can support the ambitious increase in EV production and sales
