My Capstone Project: AI Learning Team
Using the knowledge states of 100K students, we created an XGBoost Machine Learning Classification model to predict whether a student will answer a question correctly. The accuracy of the model was 76%, a 47% improvement over the baseline. To build this model, we first visualized the interactions between features and scaled the data using a StandardScaler. We conducted Two-Sample Two-Tailed T-Tests, Pearson’s R Correlation, and Chi-Squared tests. After hypothesis testing, we determined that questions with explanations and pictures were drivers of whether students would answer a question correctly. Lastly, we crafted a set of recommendations for the education company that provided the dataset.
