When a user selects a category, we query Yelp using their API for a set of locations based on different parameters for each category. We filter those results based on spots that our users have suggested, and then display only results that have been rated positively.
An algorithm was created for looking at all spots rated for a specific category in the area so that the better a location has been rated by our users, the more likely it is to appear in searches. We also only allow results that have a 60 % approval rate on Yelp.
Mingle utilizes the Bootstrap framework along with CSS, JavaScript, and jQuery. Database and backend structure were built with MySQL and Java.
